Having just switched from gmail to ProtonMail for purposes of privacy, I want to also switch out of Google calendar but am not sure what options are best, especially in terms of security and privacy. I would really rather pay for services and support that business model than trade data about myself to get a “free” tool. Any recommendations greatly appreciated!

ProtonMail is actually working on one… the announcement was from March:
That is amazing news, as I’m now using ProtonMail instead of gmail! Thanks!

https://posteo.de/en is a great service and they provide CalDAV compatible calendar. Personally, I use them only for email. Since I use Nextcloud for file sync, it is the natural place for calendaring too. I suppose most Nextcloud providers allow for calendar use.
