I’ve been researching the way social media and mobile phones affect kids (and adults) and recently attended a public lecture in Cape Town, South Africa, given by one Graham Music, child psychotherapist, on the alarming effects of cyberspace on adolescents.
The most frightening fact is that adolescent brains are far more prone to digital addiction than adult ones are (because parts of the brain are still forming in adolescence). The addiction is real:Instagram and Facebook have tacitly admitted as much by releasing in-App tools to help manage the time a user spends on them (rolling out globally at the mo).
