I need a break from the Internet but I cant get one

That is amazing! I am trying to do exactly that! Limiting myself is important, which is why I started the accountability thread!

Just noticed that when you make this selection, the Facebook icons (heart, thumb, etc.) and the numbers attached to them disappear. :eyes:

Hi Siddhi, you’ve got already lots of valuable advice. I will just share what I did for my corporate career, where I was forced to sit in the office 9-10 hours non-stop without even being able to take a normal lunch break outside of the screens.

  1. Go to GP and eye specialist, make sure you mention physical symptoms you have and that you think they are coming from excessive screen time. Make sure they write it down exactly the way you say it.
  2. Listen to their recommendations, ask them for a copy of the report and get it to the Director of your school
  3. Tell him that the situation is not sustainable for you and doctors are very worried about your health, and they think so much screen time is detrimental (make it up if they didn’t say it, director will already get shit scared). Tell him you are also consulting about this situation with some support organisation (better governmental, whatever is in your city, in the UK it’s Citizens Advice Bureau). You don’t have to, but it might be a good idea anyways, as it puts pressure on them.
  4. Based on the information you present (medical will be the key though, as they might be afraid of being brought to court for damaging your health), you propose whatever makes sense for you as an experiment for 2-3 weeks. For example, that you will only spend up to 2 hours a day on screens.
  5. Make sure you use these 2 hours really well, being focused. You will also accomplish much more. This later on can be the first step to start your activism etc. but don’t boast it.
  6. Make sure you have long breaks in between your computer time in any case. 2-3 hours of use, then at least one hour break, to give your eyes a chance to recover.
Hope this helps, any questions, let me know!

PS It’s NOT normal for people to spend hours glued to screens, our bodies are not created for this. So don’t feel bad about yourself for any reason, please, you are being forced in a very unnatural situation. And well done for bringing this up here.
