On an average day, how many hours do you use screen/internet devices such as computers, phones, televisions, etc.?

I made this poll because I recently tallied up the amount of time I spend using the computer in a typical week. I am a software developer who enjoys writing software outside of work as well, so I would imagine my usage is higher than average.

Here is my breakdown:

  • Work: 8 hours (M-F)
  • Personal projects: 8 hours (S-Su)

Total per week: 56 hours, sometimes less if there is a holiday or special event.

After reading about and personally experiencing the how excessive computer usage is harmful to mental, physical, and psychological health, I set this 8 hour daily maximum. It used to be 10+ hours.

When you say use, I assume you mean actively. At work, I have my computer on all day, but I am not active on it the whole time.
