I am the Director of Intelligence at the Center for Internet Security (cisecurity.org), which runs the Information Sharing and Analysis Centers (ISACs) for the 50 U.S. States (MS-ISAC) and for U.S. Elections Infrastructure (EI-ISAC).
Formerly, I was the Defensive Cyber Operations Chief for DISA Europe, providing services including incident response, malware analysis, threat intelligence, countermeasures development and deployment, and security architecture design and assessment for 2 geographic Combatant Commands (U.S. European Command and U.S. Africa Command) in Germany.
Prior to moving to Europe, I was the Deputy Intelligence Officer at the U.S Navy Cyber Defense Operations Command in Virginia where I led a team of 100 intelligence, digital forensics, malware analysis, and open source research analysts in 7 critical named operations and countless smaller incidents and events.
I have been in IT and cybersecurity professionally since 2003, when I enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as a networking and cryptographic technician. Since my time on Active Duty, I have led teams across the spectrum of cybersecurity including security auditing, penetration testing, digital forensics investigations, and DevSecOps. My favorite, however, is Intelligence, where I get to focus on the human aspects of cybersecurity: the mind behind the crime.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Forensic Anthropology and a Master’s degree in Cybersecurity. I moonlight as a musician and improvisational comedian. I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have 3 beautiful and creative children.
And finally, even at my age (almost 40), I still dream of being Indiana Jones one day, so I hope to pursue my PhD in the coming years which will focus on topics that are of importance to this community.
